PROJECT 2
Contextual Fit
ARC 257 Architectural Design II
In this project, we are challenged to design an addition to the Smith House, originally built in 1965 by architect Richard Meier. The new design should honor the original architecture by carefully studying and integrating its existing systems and design language. We are expected to develop a concept that addresses the current needs of the homeowners, while thoughtfully introducing new elements or systems that were not part of the original structure.

Smith House
Wave & Flow Addition
Narrative
The Keiths' family loves to go to the beach every weekend, specifically to spend time in the ocean. They love to spend hours swimming and getting hit by the waves, often spending most of their time together watching the waves roll down. They want to have their new home to encapsulate a large part of their love for the ocean waves and the flow of them, making it a mainpart of their sunroom and balcony, so that where they can watch the ocean from their home also holds parts of it.
